POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a gang driving a rusty white transit van attempted to steal a safe from a bakery.
The would-be thieves brole into the premises in High Street, Wingham, near Canterbury, at about 9.30pm on Tuesday, December 19, but were disturbed by a member of staff who was due to start his shift.
It is believed three men were involved in the break-in. One was carrying a metal pole and threatened the 18-year-old bakery worker who managed to run to safety.
The man with the pole is described as white, aged around 40 of burly build, and had a local "Aylesham" accent.
The transit van was then seen to leave Wingham along the B2046 towards Aylesham and the A2.
Police would like to speak to a man and woman who were walking their dog in the area at the time of the incident. They may have useful information.
Anyone who thinks they may be able to help with the investigation is asked to contact PC Matthew Cave on 01304 240055.Alternatively, if you don’t want to give your name, call Kent Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. You could be eligible for a reward.
