Dozens of calls were made to firefighters to report flooding in parts of Kent as the bank holiday weekend got off to a soggy start.

Almost half an inch of rain fell in two hours prompting around 30 emergency calls to Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

Several roads were affected including Pier Road, Gillingham, which was still partially flooded this morning.

Crews spent an hour pumping floodwater out of a house in Newitt Road, Hoo, at 4pm yesterday.

Earlier in the day they used portable pumps to clear water that was about two metres deep from a property in Cranbrook.

Trains were also delayed at Gillingham railway station for several hours last night due to flooding.

The line was last flooded just a month ago after heavy thunderstorms.

Control room staff also received reports of flooding in Chatham, Rochester, Sheerness, Faversham, Rolvenden, Lyminge, Birchington, Canterbury, Herne Bay, Sandwich, Westgate, Tunbridge Wells, Northfleet and Bean.

Thankfully, it seems yesterday's rain was just a blip.

Scattered sunshine is expected later today (Sunday), with bright sunshine and highs of 27C tomorrow predicted by the Met Office for London and the South East.
