A WOMAN was left with a bleeding leg after stumbling on a barbed wire trap in a park used by children.

Alison Blackburn, who lives at Bryant Road in Strood, was with her Rottweiler in nearby Broomhill Park when she stumbled into the trap.

Her legs got caught in a tangle of barbed wire and her partner, Gary Pellatt, had to set her free.

Mrs Blackburn said: “You couldn’t see the trap at all because it had been covered with leaves and grass. It was a few feet wide and made from pieces of wood with nails in it and barbed wire. It was obviously designed to catch someone or some thing.”

Mrs Blackburn, whose legs were left cut and bleeding, said: “It looks like I have been sliced with razor blades. Everyone keeps asking me what I have done. It looks terrible. If my dog had walked into the trap, he would have fought to get free and been really hurt.”

Mrs Blackburn immediately contacted the police and Medway Council were also informed of the incident.

The land belongs to Gordon Road Junior School, which uses the site for sports days. It has sent a member of staff to inspect the area on more than one occasion since the incident, but did not find the trap.

A spokesman from Medway Council said: “The council’s urban rangers will be double-checking the area with the school, as well as making further investigations.”

Mrs Blackburn has since been to the park but is worried another trap might have been set.

She said: “It has frightened me. I usually walk my dog there four times a day but I’m wary of going back. I have been up there to warn other people though."
