Police investigating an illegal bare knuckle boxing fight in Chatham have arrested a 19-year-old man.

A spokesman said the man, from Chatham, had been released on bail until March 5 while inquiries continue.

Thousands have already logged on to view the fight on the video sharing website YouTube.

The five-minute and 41 second film, titled "Bill Wright and Charlie Rumble," shows two men, stripped to the waist, fighting on concrete beside a sports field believed to be at the junction of Wayfield Road and Barnfield.

The men are surrounded by a cheering crowd of about 100, egging on the fighters.

A second video, lasting almost seven minutes, shows the end of the fight when, bloodied and tired, the two men stop fighting and shake hands.

It is thought text messages were sent to invite people to watch the fight.

Police sent four patrol cars to the scene at about 9.45am on Sunday, January 18, to what was described at the time as reports of a "disturbance." On Monday, police told the Medway Messenger the incident was a bare knuckle fight and said they were aware of the video.

The videos, posted by wratten12345 and Bassettoo7, had more than 5,000 and 3,000 views respectively by Monday.

But by Wednesday the video had been removed

from YouTube. Police said they had not removed it.

Det Chief Insp Dominic Kilbride said:"This is an incident police in Medway were already aware of. An investigation has begun and if anyone has any information they think would be of assistance to police they can contact officers on 01634 792123 or Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

"Violence of any sort is unacceptable and there is risk of serious or fatal injury attached to fighting.

"This was a pre-arranged meeting between two consenting adults. Kent police in Medway condemn any form of violence and are investigating this particular incident."

Boxing trainer Charlie Rumble, 55, now works at Sittingbourne Boxing Club after serving for many years at St Mary's Boxing Club in Chatham.

Speaking on Tuesday, he said he said he knew nothing of the fight.

He added: "Yes I have a son, but he has not had any trouble."
