Gillingham made it two away wins in a week after coming from behind to beat Barnet on Tuesday night.
The Gills went into the break a goal down but turned the League 2 match on its head with two goals in the second half during a five-minute spell.
Peterborough loan pair Chris Whelpdale and Charlie Lee got the goals to put Gillingham’s 1,200 strong following in a party mood.
Gillingham, facing former manager Mark Stimson, trailed at the break by a single goal scored by veteran striker Kevin Gallen.
The Barnet front man bundled the ball home with 31 minutes gone after Glen Southam robbed Kevin Maher of the ball, Mark Marshall swung in a cross and Gallen was on hand to score.
That goal came just a minute after Gills keeper Alan Julian raced off his line to deny George Francomb, after he barged his way through Callum Kennedy and Matt Lawrence.
Gillingham went into the break ruing a number of missed good chances, with Charlie Lee guilty of missing the best of those, as he shot wide when put through on goal by Adebayo Akinfenwa.
Defender Anwar Uddin was in the right place at the right time just before the half-hour mark when he headed Whelpdale’s shot off the line.
Gillingham went into the break a goal down and were also forced into making a substitution when Kennedy limped off injured.
Barnet started the second half brightly and Julian was forced into making good saves from Marshall and Jordan Parkes in the opening minutes.
Gillingham had chances fall to Whelpdale and Palmer but both went over the bar.
It was Whelpdale who got Gills back on level terms when his powerful effort beat keeper Jake Cole with 59 minutes gone.
Five minutes later and the Gills were ahead when Barnet lost possession in midfield and Lee picked up the ball, drove at the defence and unleashed a shot past Cole.
Gillingham grew stronger as the game wore on and McDonald smashed a chance inches wide in the closing stages.
