Met Office issues severe weather warning for strong winds and heavy rain in Kent

It may be the height of summer, but unpredictable English weather strikes again with strong winds set to batter the county.

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for strong southwesterly winds and heavy, blustery showers all day.

Gusts are expected to reach 40 to 50mph in-land, but could reach 60mph along exposed coastlines.

A Met Office spokesman said: "Please be aware that these winds may lead to disruption to transport, and in view of the time of the year, there is increased potential for disruption to outdoor activities.

"Also, strong winds and large waves will coincide with a period of spring tides this weekend."

The warning is in place from 2am to 9pm today.
