FIREFIGHTERS and paramedics battled to release the driver of a yellow Hyundai car which overturned in a Kent village.

The drama happened in Pitstock Road at Rodmersham, near Sittingbourne. The driver, a 37-year-old man from Bridge, near Canterbury, had suspected broken ribs but police say his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The Kent Air Ambulance took him to Maidstone Hospital. Sub-officer Jamie Muddle, from Sittingbourne Fire Station, said: “We had to carefully cut the roof off the car to free the man. We also kept the car steady by tying it to nearby trees.”

The accident happened at about 7.45am on Tuesday. No other vehicles were involved. The road was re-opened at about 9.15am.
