BB gunman shoots woman in the eye

A 36-year-old woman has been was shot in the eye by a thug wielding a ball bearing gun.

The victim was walking with her partner along Rainham High Street, near the Cricketers pub, when the incident happened. The pair were just about to leave the car park behind the pub when she heard a noise and a small object hit her eye, causing her pain and discomfort.

Her partner heard a cheer which he believes came from the person or persons who fired the BB gun.

The woman had to visit Medway Maritime Hospital and doctors confirmed that there was bruising to the eye. The injury is not thought to be permanent.

PC Kate Sheehan said: "This is totally reckless act that could have caused serious damage to the victim's eye."

At the time of the incident, about 7pm last Sunday, there was a white coloured car that drove past and police would ask the occupants to contact them as they may have information that will help them identify the culprit or culprits.
