MURDER squad investigators have ordered ports and airports to be on red alert for the flatmate of a student who was stabbed to death.
Police urgently want to speak to Sukhdip Singh Chhina in relation to the killing of a 24-year-old student who died after a knife attack at their home in Holmhurst Road, Belvedere.
Detectives from the MPS Specialist Crimes Directorate based at Lewisham want to gain more information from the Indian national, following the death last Wednesday evening.
Detective Inspector John Oldham, who is leading the murder hunt, said: "We believe there were four young men, all students, living at the address. We are anxious to speak to one of them who left the scene after the incident.
"His name is Sukhdip Singh Chhina, an Indian national, aged 23. He is of Asian appearance, 5ft 9ins tall, with short dark hair, and a cut to his forehead. We don’t know what clothes he was wearing when he disappeared.
"This young man has probably left London. We are appealing for anyone who knows of his whereabouts, or thinks they may have seen him."
Police have confirmed they believe they know the identity of the victim, but have not yet informed his next of kin. A post-mortem examination found he had died of stab wounds.
Anyone with any information about Chhina’s whereabouts is asked to call police on 020 8721 4805, or to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
