Bent brace seals Addicks win

Charlton Athletic 2 Middlesbrough 1

TWO goals from Darren Bent gave Charlton a 2-1 win over Middlesbrough at The Valley on Sunday.

The visitors arrived in south east London missing several of their regular players, but they had the better of the opening 45 minutes with Mark Viduka, Ray Parlour and Massimo Maccarone all going close.

But it was the Addicks who went ahead with 17 minutes to play when Bent rose highest to head in Chris Powell’s cross.

A superb long-range effort from Viduka levelled the scores in the 80th minute, but Bent claimed all three points for the home side when he got on the end of a Luke Young cross with just four minutes remaining.

Charlton: Myhre, Young, Perry, Hreidarsson, Powell, Kishishev, Holland, Hughes (Thomas ht), Ambrose (Bartlett 75), Bothroyd (Euell ht), D Bent.
Subs Not Used: Andersen, Spector.
