Big tail-backs after A2 shunt

A rush-hour crash caused chaos on some of the county's busiest roads this morning.

The two-car crash happened on the London-bound carriageway of the A2 near Cobham shortly after 6am.

Both drivers escaped uninjured but the minor collision caused severe tailbacks.

Traffic queued along the A289 Wainscott bypass and on to the M2 bridge at Rochester

Fire crews from Strood and Thameside attended the scene as a precaution but were not needed.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said: "When the crew arrived at the scene they realised it was a bit of a false alarm. There had been a rear end shunt, the drivers had exchanged details and one had already driven off. But it only takes one lane to become congested and then the tailbacks begin."
