We may be all reaching for the sun cream and flip flops, but the winter crews at Kent County Council's are bringing in the gritters!

The county is sizzling in the heat, but council workers are already preparing for when the mercury plummets below the zero mark.

More than 19,000 tonnes of salt have already been delivered to depots around the county, with more deliveries planned in the coming weeks.

Last year's lengthy winter saw more than 32,000 tonnes of salt spread on the county's busiest routes - more than 2,300 miles of road.

Kent's 60-strong fleet of gritters were called out more than 120 times, almost double the 10-year average of 66 times per winter.

Meanwhile, in Kent today, the temperatures are set to hit around 26C today.

But sunworshippers will have to swap sun hats for brollies tomorrow, with the South East being hit by a yellow warning of rain for Saturday.
