Blood, sweat and gears

The dirt will be flying this weekend at the Red Bull Pro Nationals where the country’s top motocross riders will thrash their bikes around the track.

The event, one of seven taking place this season across the country, is returning to Canada Heights, near Swanley, and looks sure to pull another huge crowd.

Four winners at world championship level will be in the line up at the start, with racers coming from Holland, Estonia, France, South Africa and Ireland among the Brits on the track. There will also be junior races and plenty to entertain the whole family.

TV favourites like Peppa Pig, Fireman Sam, Roary the Racing Car and Bob the Builder will all meet children in the KidZone. Older children can try zorbing and bungee trampolines and the Suzuki Motocross Experience gives the whole family the chance to learn to ride an off-road motorbike, in a safe environment and under expert supervision.

There will be freestyle motocross displays with some of the world’s top FMX athletes hitting the purpose-built ramps and throwing out a selection of crazy tricks. Moves include tsunamis, heel-clickers and show-stopping back-flips.

Fans of pedal power can see the skills of two-time world BMX dirt jumping champion Kye Forte, who’s heavily involved in the BMX dirt jump demos at the London Olympics.

Managing director of Events 22 Matt Bates, who are organising the weekend, said: “We always look forward to coming to Canada Heights. We were there in 2011 and it was the stand-out round of a stand-out season.

“For diehard motocross fans the track produces brilliant racing and the Kidzone and MX try-out always go down really well with families.”

The Red Bull Pro Nationals take place at Canada Heights from Saturday, July 7 to Sunday, July 8. Tickets £16, seniors and children £4, families £36. Visit www.redbullpronationals.com.
