The Repatriation of Lt Drummond-Baxter (RGR) at RAF Brize Norton

The bodies of the two Gurkha soldiers killed at an Afghan checkpoint have been repatriated to Britain.

Lt Edward Drummond-Baxter and L. Cpl Siddhanta Kunwar were flown into RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire.

Their arrival first involved the ceremony of a bearer party carrying the coffins from the aeroplane to the hearses.

The bodies were initially placed at a chapel of rest at the base, for their families to be with them, before eventually being taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

A post mortem examination was due there and the bodies were to be released to the families for the funerals after the opening of the inquests.

The two men, from the Folkestone-based 1st Battalion The Royal Gurkha Rifles, were gunned down by a man wearing an Afghan police uniform on October 30.

They had been shot at Checkpoint Prrang in the southern area the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province.

Lt Drummond-Baxter, 29, lived in Durham and L. Cpl Kunwar, 28, lived in Nepal.
