A MISSING 31-year-old Bromley man has reportedly been confirmed dead in Turkey.
Guy Kendrick, of Southover, Downham, was last seen in September while visiting the country.
A body found floating in the Bosphorus, the strait in Istanbul dividing Europe and Asia, was claimed by a Turkish family as that of missing man Murat Durmaz, in October.
But the British Foreign Office has been in contact with Mr Kendrick’s family and is believed to have exhumed the body to confirm its identity through DNA tests.
According to a Turkish newspaper article seen by the Metropolitan Police, the UK and Turkish authorities established the wrong body had been given to the Turkish family.
The article said Mr Kendrick came to Istanbul in October.
While staying in a hotel on the Asian side, he took a boat across the strait before jumping into the water from the Halic bridge.
A fisherman tried to save him but could only pull his body to shore, according to the report.
A spokesman for Bromley police said: “We are liaising with the family and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the coroner and are unable to comment further at this time.”
The Foreign Office has refused to comment.
