Police searching for a missing 28-year-old man from Sheerness have confirmed a body has been found.

Officers recieved a call at around 8.30pm yesterday on Margate beach last night.

Kent Police had issued an appeal for the whereabouts of John Howells.

His parents, Melita and John, also made an emotional appeal on KentOnline for help finding him.

John - known as John John - was last seen at his home in Sheppey Beach Villa's, Leysdown, on July 7.

Police recovered the body from the beach near the Wintergardens with the assistance of RNLI.

The body is yet to be formally identified. Officers are not currently treating the death as suspicious.

The Coroner's officer has been informed.
