Police have confirmed the body found on Sheerness beach yesterday was that of an Islander.
The 57-year-old man, from Sheerness, was reported missing yesterday afternoon.
Police were called to the scene after a member of the public made the discovery just before 1pm.
It is believed the man washed ashore after drowning. About 15 officers were seen looking for evidence on the beach and the surrounding area was cordoned off.
The man is not expected to be named until an inquest is formally opened next week.
