A MAN is in hospital with severe burns after he lit a bonfire with flammable liquid. The man, from Wilfred Road, Ramsgate, was taken to hospital in Margate at the weekend with 40 per cent burns, pending transfer to a burns unit.
Kent Fire Brigade’s head of community fire safety, divisional officer Mick Rowney, has warned people not to use flammable liquid in fires.
He said: “Flames from the liquid travel unseen and can be found some way from a container. It is the fumes which ignite with the potential to cause severe burns.
“Any fire is dangerous but serious thought must be given to having fires in the garden at home. Bonfires should not contain any potentially hazardous materials which may explode or give off toxic fumes. All bonfires should be kept to a manageable size and away from all buildings.”
