A teenager is pursuing her dream of becoming a published author – before she has even finished school.

AS-level student Jordan Clark, from Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar School, has found time between her studies to complete the first book in her young adult fantasy trilogy Return of the Sun.

Jordan, 16, is currently seeking a publisher for the 97,000 word book which she started writing in the summer holidays and finished in November, last year.

The inspiration for the heroine of the books, Siarra Brooks, came from a dream, and the story is set in the Kingdom of Soluh which is suppressed by a tyrant king.

Jordan, who lives at Chartham, describes it as an epic tale of blood, anger and fear, mixed with the mystery of a first love and the power of friendship.

She has submitted the first few chapters of Return of the Sun to five literary agents, and undeterred by three rejections, has already begun working on the second novel called Daughters of the Moon.

“I split my evenings between homework and writing with the first book, but with this second book my workload at school has increased, so I can only write on Thursday evenings and on Sundays,” she said.

As well as studying for AS-levels in maths, chemistry, biology and Spanish, Jordan has also created her own website to publicise her work.

She said: “My dream is for Return of the Sun to be published, and to walk into the common room at school one day and see someone completely absorbed in my book.”
