Bowls duo are well matched

ONLY a fortnight after lifting the singles titles in the annual Margate open tournament Terry Coker and Rosemary Osmond teamed up to bag the Percy Snow Cup for mixed pairs.

This competition, reinstated after a five-year lapse, was held at the Margate club’s Northdown Avenue headquarters over the weekend.

Among the 22 teams taking part were bowlers from Whitstable and Herne Bay besides three girls under-16, one of whom Melissa Hall, reached the semi-finals.

Coker, who was playing on his home greens, is the sole bowler who has also won the trophy when it was open only to men’s pairs until the late 1980s.

In the final on Sunday the champions who shared £100 defeated the Minster duo of Sylvia Pritchard and Len Cooper by 22-14.

The Timber Wood Plater for first round losers went to the husband and wife pairing of Gerry and Nick Wood (Margate),who beat Sheila Taylor (Margate) and John Beal (Dane Park(21-10 in the final.
