Boxing clever in Eastern Sheppey

Young people at the Eastern end of the Island have been given a boost by becoming members of a thriving boxing club.

The Eastern Amateur Boxing Club meets in Warden Village Hall, and on Saturday will hold a gym/boxing show, when all are welcome.

The club was the brainchild of former parish councillor Colin Dawson and has been running for two years.

With the full support of Warden Parish Council and the financial backing of local residents, Ray Rumbol and Doug Walton, the club was started to give young people in Eastern Sheppey the chance to be involved in the sport which teaches them to be disciplined and to keep physically fit.

Parish council chairman Pat Sandle said: “It is a great sport and this, combined with the support of skilled and dedicated Amateur Boxing Association qualified trainers, has led to the club having some potentially good fighters.

"The club is run entirely by volunteers and has been a real boost for the young people of the area.”
