Charlton conceded twice in the first half against League 1's basement side Brentford, as they slumped to their third away defeat of the season.
The Bees took control of this London derby from the off, scoring first through Gary Alexander - the striker lashing in from six yards after Charlton failed to clear from a corner.
The home side were two-nil up less than 20 minutes later when Myles Weston's cross from the left was diverted into the path of Toumani Diagouraga, who shot powerfully into the top corner for his first ever Brentford goal.
The Bees could have been out of sight at the break but Charlton held on, introducing Pawel Abbott and Kyel Reid for the second half.
Reid was instrumental in the Addicks' only goal of the game. His cross was volleyed home from 12 yards by Scott Wagstaff (pictured) in the 74th minute as Charlton fought their way back into contention.
Akpo Sodje had two decent chances to salvage a point for the visitors but could not find a way past Bees' keeper Ben Hamer, as Brentford clung on for only their second win of the year.
