THE loss of five wickets for just 17 runs set Broadstairs on the way to defeat against Bickley Park in Division 1 of the Shepherd Neame Kent League on Saturday.
Replying to the home side’s total of 212-5 Broadstairs made a promising start, but from 46 without loss they slumped to 62-5, a position from which they never recovered.
Opener Ben Futter was the first to go, for 21, and with just one run added Alex Hogben fell without scoring.
David Cooper (32) was third out at 55, with Terry Bond and Andrew Bailey both managing just two apiece as the slump continued.
Skipper Neil Brennan (35) and Michael Ross rallied to add 36, but both then fell within 11 runs of each other, leaving Broadstairs 110-7.
With the total advanced by just one run, Bradley and Ashley Ellison both fell to Richard Clinton, who also took the wicket of last man, Andy Marshall, as the visitors were dismissed for 129.
After being put in Bickley Park were indebted to a fourth-wicket stand of 113 between Jimmy Lincoln (62) and Phil Browning, whose 68 came off 48 deliveries.
Stuart Wiseman (2-36 in 15 overs) was the pick of the Broadstairs attack, claiming the wickets of openers Richard Clinton (18) and Paul Clinton (26).
Broadstairs are at home to Folkestone on Saturday.
