A late strike by Bromley substitute Hakeem Araba denied 10-man Tonbridge their first win of the season at Hayes Lane.
Mikael Suarez put Angels ahead on nine minutes and his goal looked like it would win the game for boss Tommy Warrilow, pictured, even after Chris Piper had been harshly dismissed for two bookings.
However, despite a string of superb saves by goalkeeper Lee Worgan, Tonbridge could not keep their Kent rivals out in a dramatic Bank Holiday Monday climax.
Worgan had already saved from Albert Jarrett and Richard Pacquette before Suarez opened the scoring. Bromley keeper Joe Welch dived full-length to deny George Purcell but Suarez tucked away the rebound.
Michael Malcolm dragged a shot wide for Bromley and Worgan denied Jarrett and Tony Finn as the visitors’ goal led a charmed life. At the other end, Purcell’s 20-yard strike drew another save from Welch.
Despite Piper’s sending-off, midway through the second period, Bromley looked unlikely to equalise. However, with four minutes remaining, Ali Chaaban broke at pace and crossed for Araba to score from close-range.
On Saturday, Tonbridge were involved in another derby draw when they held Welling United 1-1 at Longmead. A Frannie Collin penalty cancelled out Harry Baker’s opener but here, too, Warrilow’s side finished with 10 men.
Olly Schulz was shown a straight red card for bringing down Theo Fairweather-Johnson as he raced through on goal. Tonbridge’s two points over the Bank Holiday weekend were their first of the season and they sit 19th in Blue Square Bet South.
