Eighties pop group Bucks Fizz's hopes of emerging triumphant in tonight's poll to find the greatest Eurovision Song Contest song of all time was scuppered as Swedish supergroup Abba won the public vote.
With the popular event cancelled this year as a result of the pandemic, the BBC aired a special show tonight urging us all the vote for the finest tune to emerge from the continental contest.
And on the shortlist was Bucks Fizz's classic 1981 winner, Making Your Mind Up.
Now performing as a trio known as The Fizz, original members Cheryl Baker, who lives in Tunbridge Wells, and Mike Nolan, who lives in Broadstairs, were hoping to once again be crowned triumphant.
However, the band, which also includes Jay Aston, were up against some stiff opposition.
Also on the shortlist for viewers to vote on was Abba's 1971 classic Waterloo which emerged as the winner. Also in contention was Brotherhood of Man's 1976 winner, Save Your Kisses For Me.
And while the UK has long got familiar in recent years with the refrain of 'null points', reminders of other triumphs from years gone were also on the list.
Among them were Katrina and The Waves' 1997 winning song Love Shine A Light and Gina G's 1996 hit Ooh Ahh...Just A Little Bit, which came eighth in the contest, but topped the UK pop charts.
