A TEENAGER who survived life-threatening burns several years after being doused in petrol has now been mugged at knifepoint.
Alfred Page, 17, known to his family and friends as Podge, was fishing off Gillingham Pier when the latest incident happened.
He was approached by a man who threatened him with the weapon and then stole two fishing rods bought with cash donated to Alfred during his recovery at a specialist burns unit in Chelmsford.
The teenager had been fishing with his cousin until a friend arrived to tell the boy that his father had been taken to hospital. Minutes after his cousin had left, Alfred of Rosebery Road, Gillingham, was attacked.
Alfred’s mother Maria Page said: “Alfred is really well-known throughout the area because of what happened and I can’t believe someone would do this to him knowing what he has been through. It has really shaken him up. He doesn’t want to go out on his own now.
“He loves fishing and has been there dozens of times. Whoever did this must have known he was going to be there.”
Five years ago Alfred suffered 70 per cent burns when a 12-year-old boy set light to his petrol-soaked clothes in woodland in Gillingham.
The attack happened on Saturday, November 12, at about 3pm. A police spokesman said: “Kent Police in Medway arrested a man on Saturday afternoon following allegations of a robbery that took place in the early hours of Saturday morning.
“He has been given police bail while we investigate this incident. If anyone has information about this incident they can contact us on 01634 884252 or call Crimestoppers with information on 0800 555111.”
