NEARLY 2,000 jobs could be created if a scheme to extend the White Cliffs Business Park gets the go-ahead.

The project management firm AMEC Developments has submitted plans to the district council for a £100 million development of phase two of the business park in Whitfield, near Dover.

If the application is granted, employment space for up to 1,800 jobs would be created. The proposal includes business units, a DIY retail warehouse, office, workshop and industrial space and a special area for small and start-up businesses.

Two new roads will link the second business park with the existing one and also with the roundabout at the A2 junction with the A256.

And, after months of speculation, it has been confirmed that B&Q will be moving from their Charlton Green store, to the new business park.

B&Q will help fund the provision of infrastructure, new services and roads, and the store will be the only retail element. The new store alone will create 120 jobs, replacing the 40 jobs offered at the Charlton Green store.

A spokesman for AMEC said the company had already had interest from a variety of companies for space within the development.

If the second phase of the business park is successful, plans would then be progressed to develop a third phase, with the potential of creating another 1,200 jobs.
