Calling landlords - Warning over new rules

Surgeries are taking place this month for anyone who either lets, or intends to purchase, a property to rent to other people.

Anyone who either lets, or intends to purchase, a three-storey property for letting, will need to apply for a House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) Licence. Enforcement action will be taken against property owners who fail to buy a licence.

Medway Council is holding two HMO licensing surgeries to inform residents about tenancy licensing rules and how they affect them. Landlords will also be apply to apply for a licence at the surgeries.

The surgeries will be held at Strood Library in Bryant Road on Wednesday, September 10 and Tuesday, September 23. Both surgeries take place from 2pm and 7pm.

Homwowners can either simply turn up, or reserve a time with the HMO Licensing Team to discuss their concerns by calling 01634 333533 or 01634 333358.
