A Facebook campaign to bring a Primark to Sheppey is picking up momentum.

The group, called Bring a Primark to Sheerness, has more than 1,000 members and calls for the budget fashion chain to set up in the High Street.

There are lots of suggestions from Facebook members who have joined the group for the old Woolworths store to be turned into the store.

Group members have a whole list of reasons why they want to shop to come to Sheerness, including jobs for Islanders, cheap clothes and competition for other shops.

One member comments: "Makes sense. Saves Woolworths being another empty shop in the High Street, so why not replace it with Primark!!"

Another reads: "Start a petition. Write to Primark head office. Come on troops, let's make this utopia of affordable fashion a reality."

A spokesman for Primark would not comment on its plans for specific stores, but did say the company is not looking at any of the former Woolworths stores.
