The young men found dead in a Canterbury pond had taken drugs, it has been revealed.

Toxicology results show Hugo Wenn, 17, and 25-year-old Daniel Lloyd had methoxetamine - known as MXE - and alcohol in their bodies.

MXE is a legal hill billed as a safe alternative to ketamine, a class C substance.

Both men's bodies were found in Reed Pond, near Tennyson Avenue, on Monday, January 30. The pair had last been seen in Canterbury city centre the previous Friday night.

Post mortems revealed they both died from drowning.

The families of both men have now been told about the outcome of the toxicology results.

Kent Police said detectives investigating this case are not treating the deaths as suspicious.

A report has been prepared for the coroner, who will hold an inquest into these deaths later.

Hugo Wenn, from Barham, was a well-known character around Canterbury as a beat-boxer and busker, while friends described him as a "gentle giant".

Daniel Lloyd was educated at Harvey Grammar School, in Folkestone, and lived in Wincheap before his death.

A recognisable face also known by the nickname Taihg, his favourite busking spot was on the corner of St Margaret's Street and the High Street outside Lloyd's Bank.

Swathes of floral tributes have been left at the spot since his death along with pictures and artwork on the pavements.
