Invicta Dynamos achieved one of their most satisfying wins of the season in ENIHL South Division 1 by beating second-in-the-table Chelmsford Chieftains 3-2 on Sunday.
A third-period goal by captain Andy Smith (pictured) gave Dynamos a 3-2 victory over a Chieftains side to whom they already had lost four times in league and cup in the current campaign.
Dynamos took a 1-0 first-period lead when Smith's pass set up Canadian Justin Noble to fire home and Callum Fowler made it 2-0 in the second period before Chelmsford struck back with two goals in two minutes from James Ayling and Danny Hammond to set up a tense final frame.
The Chieftains had the chance to take the lead for the first time after Daniel Fudger was awarded a match penalty for boarding Sean Easton but the Dynamos stood firm and, having survived the five-minute long powerplay, they snatched the winning goal when Smith finished off a pass from Ryan Ellis.
The victory gave Dynamos' chances of finishing third a significant boost as they look ahead to this weekend's double header at home to Bristol on Saturday and away to leaders Romford on Sunday.
