Carer saw alcohol sold to 14-year-old girl

Licensing officials have banned a petrol station from selling alcohol after booze was sold to a 14-year-old girl.

Shay Service station in Sutton Valence is not allowed to sell alcohol for one month after an investigation by Kent Police.

The investigation was sparked after the 14-year-old girl's carer witnessed her being sold alcohol and reported it to police.

Shay Service Station has 21 days to appeal the decision and has to fulfil a list of conditions set out by Maidstone Licensing Committee .

Licensing officer for Maidstone Police, Barbara Murray said : "I hope this decision sends out a clear message that selling alcohol to underage persons will not be tolerated by police or the licensing committee of Maidstone.

"Shay Service Station has agreed to sanctions to ensure that their sale of alcohol is more carefully monitored, such as the installation of CCTV, automatically asking ID from those who look under 25 and extra training for staff. Hopefully, these measures should have a positive impact and ensure that the safety of youngsters is maintained."
