A PRISON officer at HMP Swaleside at Eastchurch has been presented with a national award for his dedication and care towards his colleagues.
Stephen Baran, a senior officer won the top award in the Staff Support category at the Prison Officer of the Year Awards.
He was nominated by his governor, Tony Robson, for his role as chairman of the prison’s staff care team for 15 years.
Mr Robson said: “Stephen approaches his area of responsibility with commitment and sensitivity and is another example of the professionalism demonstrated by Swaleside staff.”
Mr Baran collected his award at a ceremony in Leeds. Other categories included suicide prevention, security, working with young people and managing difficult prisoners.
