A TALE of love, betrayal and death is coming to Medway. The classic opera Carmen is the latest production being performed by members of Medway Opera.

Performances are on Wednesday June 6, Friday June 8, and Saturday June 9, at the Central Theatre, Chatham, starting at 7.30pm.

The action takes place in 19th century Seville and centres on an amorous passion that upsets the life of dutiful soldier Don Jose, played by tenor Ian Parrett.

Claire Williamson, from Gillingham, plays Carmen, who has a love for independence that comes into conflict with Don Jose’s possessiveness and jealousy when a relationship develops between Carmen and the bullfighter Escamillo (David Ubaka).

Claire, 31, said: "This is the most challenging role yet that I’ve undertaken, but we have been rehearsing for four months and now it’s really coming together."

The company specialises in grand opera, operetta and light opera. The production will be delivered in English.

Tickets are £11. To book call 01634 338338. For more information visit www.medwayopera.org.uk
