You have heard the story of 101 Dalmatians – well, this is the story of 101 felines.

That is the total number of moggies the Cats Protection Adoption Centre in Bredhurst was able to re-home last month.

Deputy manager Debra Gates said this impressive figure set a new record for the centre.

She said: “Our previous record was 99 in one month. Our aim has always been to reach 100 so to reach 101 is even better.

“All the staff are really pleased, everyone has worked very hard.”

One cat that was re-homed was Bonnie, who had been at the centre for more than a year.

Debra said: “The staff had become quite attached to her so we were all delighted to have finally found a suitable home for Bonnie.”

The centre is particularly pleased to have achieved a new record during the tough economic times.

Debra added: “Unfortunately we are seeing more cats arrive at the centre because of the economic situation.

“When money is tight, it is the first thing people think about getting rid of because vets’ bills and other costs involved with caring for a pet can be expensive.

“But it’s nice to know that, regardless of the economic downturn, there are still lots of people willing to give a cat a home.

“We always have a waiting list of cats to come into the centre, up to 200 at a time, so the more cats we can home, the more we can help.”
