Catering for Kent at county show

PRODUCE from Kent will be taking centre stage at the Kent County Show at Detling, near Maidstone, this summer.

Organisers of the three-day show, which will be held on July 16, 17 and 18 at the county showground, have announced that all the suppliers and producers chosen to be involved with the members' catering this year, are all either members of Kent County Council initiatives Produced in Kent and Kentish Fare.

Organisers are also to welcome back Wise Catering, who will be returning to the show after a year's absence. The caterers have pledged to use all Kent produce in the members' pavilion.

Derek Bennett, from the company, has agreed to source all produce through Maidstone-based company Farm to Fridge.

The company, run by Samantha and Adam Irvine, offers a delivery service for a range of quality products from different producers and suppliers to consumers from retailers, caterers, trade outlets and individual homes, as well as this year's county show.

Wines, meats, potatoes, and even tea and coffee from Kent will all be on the menu, supplied by local companies including Invicta Meats, Dargate Dairy, Plaxtol Bakery, AV Produce Ltd supplying fresh salads and greens and wine and apple juice will come from Biddenden Vineyards.

Faversham-based Shepherd Neame brewery will also make a welcome return to the show, providing the bar and real ales in the members' area.

The show, organised by the Kent County Agricultural Society, is also being supported by the South East of England Development Agency and the Kent County Council in helping to promote local produce.

The event, now in its 75th year, attracts thousands of visitors each year to see attractions and arena displays from livestock to flower arranging.
