THE mother of a seven-month-old baby girl abandoned at a department store has been given a police caution.

The 29-year-old women from Balham, south London, and the baby's 20-year-old godfather from Brixton, were both cautioned for attempted fraud by false representation following an incident at Marks & Spencer in Bromley High Street on Thursday night.

Police were called at about 7pm after a man and woman were challenged by staff for allegedly attempting to use a suspected forged credit card.

They both ran off, leaving behind a pram with the baby in it. The child was initially taken into police protection and has since been taken into the care of Bromley Social Services.

Police have also been in touch with the baby's father, but a spokesman said the child was likely to stay with social services for "a number of days".
