CCTV released following fire at Co-Op in Cheriton High Street, Folkestone

Detectives have issued images of a man they want to speak to after the front of a Co-op store was almost engulfed in flames with shoppers still inside.

KentOnline reported earlier this week how a hero takeaway owner rushed towards the fire in Cheriton High Street, Folkestone, armed with an extinguisher as passersby panicked.

Police were called to the scene at 6.34pm on Sunday following the suspected arson attack.

Now, images have been released of a man detectives would like to identify as he may have information which could assist their investigation.

A video of the incident captured by an eyewitness showed flames across the front of the store, stretching from the far side of the building to the main entrance.

The owner of the nearby Indian takeaway Clay Oven, Mafabbir Ali, is then seen rushing to the blaze with his fire extinguisher.

No injuries were reported.
