Chairman Paul Scally left with few options after Gillingham suffer a second relegation under Mark Stimson

Gillingham parted company with manager Mark Stimson on Monday and chairman Paul Scally was forthright when discussing the reasoning behind the decision.

"We didn’t win an away game for a start and we got relegated," he said.

It was Gillingham’s second relegation in three seasons under the management of Stimson.

Mr Scally (pictured) said: "I’m frustrated, dejected, angry, upset and annoyed but we’ve been here before and we just have to deal with it.

"It effects me massively both personally and professionally but there’s not a lot we can do about it now. The guy was given every opportunity, backing and support but it didn’t work out."

A woeful defeat at Wycombe cost the Gills their League 1 status, as they lost 3-0, and Mr Scally admits that the manager could "probably" have still been in charge had relegation not happened.

The search for a new manager has already started.
