A RARE rare opportunity to see and possibly swim with seals is being offered this summer by the Thanet Coast Project.
The three-hour yacht trip sails out from Minnis Bay, Birchington, on a range of dates in July and August.
The journey involves a rubber dinghy transfer from the shore to the yacht which will go in search of a range of diverse marine wildlife just a few miles from the shore.
Naomi Biggs, the project’s education officer, said: "These wildlife sailing trips provide an exciting and rare chance for local people to see the diverse range of marine wildlife found in the sea and sandbanks just a few miles from our beaches.
"The seal trips have proved to be extremely popular again this year, so it is highly recommended to that anyone interested in coming, contacts the Visitor Information Centre as soon as possible to be sure of getting a place.
"This is a really fun day out, suitable for all the family. You can bring your packed lunch and picnic on the sandbanks, bring along your binoculars to see the seals, birds, crabs and fish close up, as well as capture this magical moment on film.
"So make sure you wear suitable footwear and clothing and make the most of this thrilling experience."
The 26 miles of Thanet’s coastline is home to many different features from the unique chalk reefs and velvet-swimming crabs to the nationally important Turnstones, which migrate here every winter from Canada.
