Change of venue for point to point opener

THE South East area start their point to point season with the first of 14 meetings on Sunday, at Godstone, Surrey where the Southdown & Eridge hold the first of their two meetings on the course.

The first of seven races starts at noon. This meeting marks a break from tradition, as previously the first meeting has always taken place at Charing. The course at Godstone has been modified so the start is now on more level ground and some of the bends have been eased.

Leading rider Chris Gordon, partnering new inmate at the Tindall yard, Commander Clover, is expected to open his account in the Members Race.

Nineteen are entered for the Restricted and one that appeals is Get Off My Cloud trained by Susanna Hall at Frant and ridden by the youngest of her three sons, Phillip, who recently became a father.

His wife Pippa produced a baby girl, Ruby, the day before Phillip won the Restricted Race at the last Tottenham meeting on Di Grissell’s Terimon’s Dream.

In the Ladies, the winner of the UK Young Horse Award last season Cedar Chief looks a useful entry, having already won at Ampton this season.

In the Men’s Open, Tom Cobbler could provide the second leg of a double for the Hall family, but the danger could come from River Baliff. This is the Halls’ local meeting, and they have also entered Little Farmer in the Confined.
