Charlotte Edwards headed home to Berkshire this week reflecting on “an unbelievable few months” after leading England to retain The Ashes with a draw against Australia at Worcester on Monday.
A reception hosted by Prime Minister Gordon Brown at Downing Street the following day was the squad’s final official engagement, before going their separate ways.
The weather proved the biggest winner at New Road, as 26 overs were lost to rain, with Edwards making an unbeaten 53 as England, set 273 to win made 106-3.
Edwards said: “I am looking forward to a rest, after playing in three major events in the space of four months. Winning the World Cup was the highlight for me, and really special, because we are judged on our one-day performances.
"Winning the Twenty20 final against New Zealand at Lords was also absolutely amazing.”
Meanwhile, Edwards is backing moves for England to play more test cricket.
The ECB wanted to play a two-test series this time, but the Australians declined, in order not to increase the length of the tour the Head of Womens Cricket Clare Connor is due to discuss the matter with the International Cricket Conference.
Edwards said: "We would love to play more tests, especially against the Aussies, but in reality time doesn’t allow for it at the moment.
"The ICC are doing everything they can to help the women’s game, so hopefully something might happen.”
Edwards will be back in action for Kent women in a two-day Twenty-20 competition in Reading at the end of the month, with the County Championship progamme set to resume in early August.
