Welling boss Jamie Day is hoping to complete the signing of Charlton youngster Carl Jenkinson on work experience next week.

Jenkinson (pictured), Charlton's under-18 captain, can play at right-back or centre-half and is expected to be with the Wings for the trip to Eastleigh on January 16.

Day said: "We were hoping to sign Carl before Christmas but his registration didn't go through in time.

"We're hoping that it will go through now and that, once he comes back from England duty, he can play for us."

Day, who will be without Lee Clarke and Jake Hobbs through suspension at various stages this month, will also be hoping to include Chris Saunders for the first time. Saunders had been banned following a sending-off while playing for Thurrock.
