It was great to get my first goal for the club at Preston North End on Saturday, and hopefully there will be many more to come for me here at Charlton.
I just want to push on and get more goals now. Hopefully, my performance will keep me in the side for the Hartlepool game and we will finish in style.
I was pleased with the goal, because it wasn’t straightforward. After I got through, the defender came back and slid in, but I knew he wasn’t going to get there. I got up, moved the ball around the goalkeeper and slotted it home.
After not making the grade at Charlton as a youngster, leaving as a 15-year-old and then making the move back in January, it was a great feeling to finally score for the club.
More than anything, it was just great to play on Saturday. I didn’t feel unfit, but towards the end my legs did start to get a bit heavy. It was nice to get 90 minutes under my belt, though, and I’ve got the goal, so that isn’t going to go unnoticed. Overall, for my first full match in a Charlton shirt, it was a case of good, but can do better.
The game itself was a bit like a film. Graham Alexander has been around for years, and he’s been a great pro. If anyone was going to score a last-minute equaliser for Preston, then I suppose I’m glad it was him.
He’s always given everything, so he’s been a good role model for young kids.
As for the result, you can’t argue with a point really, and now it’s just about winning against Hartlepool and breaking that 100-point barrier. We were all disappointed for our fans – who were having quite a party in fancy dress and all sorts – but sometimes that happens in football.
If we had played like we did in the first half, we would have walked away with 100 points. But there is one game to go and we can still reach our target.
If you’re lucky enough to have a ticket on Saturday, get there early. The Valley is sold out and it’s going to be a great atmosphere, and everyone’s looking forward to the trophy presentation.
I know there is other entertainment planned – but even the players don’t know what it is!
It’s going to be great for the fans and they deserve it. They have been brilliant since I joined in January.
I’d like to thank all our supporters for being there throughout the season, and all the players are so glad we’ve been able to give them something positive back this year.
