Chauffeur to mayor hurt in shooting

A CHAUFFEUR to a Kent mayor was hit in the face by a piece of glass after being shot at.

Michael Filmer had driven the deputy mayor of Medway, Cllr Stephen Kearney, to the Mayor of Dartford’s Ball before the incident happened.

He said: “I was sitting having a meal with other chauffeurs when there was a bang and I felt something hit my face. Then a piece of glass about half an inch long fell on to the table.

“It left a mark but I wasn’t badly hurt. The police came in and they said a ball-bearing gun had been fired at the window where I was sitting.”

Mr Filmer has been assistant chauffeur to the Mayor of Medway for more than four years. Police are investigating the incident.
