Chemical alert after thieves target lorry

KENT Police coned off a lay-by on the A20 at Hothfield, near Ashford, early today after a foreign lorry driver reported that his vehicle had been broken into and chemicals stolen.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service attended with three pumps and a support vehicle.

The chemical containers were found outside the trailer and all were accounted for.

A small amount of liquid leaked when the offender cut into the trailer curtain.

This was identified as saline and posed no danger to members of the public or to the environment.
