Children who have been brave in the face of adversity are being sought for a Kent Young Hero award.
For more than two decades the county’s Children’s Awards has been showcasing the achievements of courageous youngsters.
Described as a ‘platform to recognise young people’ the accolades shine a light on those achieving in the face of adversity alongside the carers, charities and fundraisers which support them.
And in an exciting change to this year’s line-up - a new award is being introduced to ensure judges really are getting to know about the most exceptional children within our communities.
The Young Hero of the Year award wishes to celebrate a child who has been brave in the face of adversity.
The panel is keen to hear about young candidates who have shown real heroism – perhaps during an emergency or a situation that has put them under pressure, which they’ve handled admirably.
Nominating someone you know is quick and easy – and giving your time to tell us about someone very special could earn them a place at our fantastic gala lunch presentation later this year.
We welcome nominations from all – so you don’t need to be a close family relative to submit information.
School staff, sports coaches, dance teachers, neighbours and friends every year step forward to tell us about a child they know – so if you’re aware of a Young Hero then we’d desperately love for you to do the same and contact us.
You can nominate a child for an award through our website where you can also see all of the other categories open for nominations this year.
Alongside young heroes, we want to know about young fundraisers, young carers as well as brave families and outstanding charities.
Aldo Sotgiu MD of Wards said: “Each year, we receive countless nominations and hear so many stories, and we noticed a common theme in many of them. That was that despite their young age, many children in Kent show bravery beyond their years—whether that be protecting a loved one from danger or dialling 999 in an emergency.
“So this year, we have introduced the category of Young Hero. The title really says it all.”
Nominations must be received by Friday, May 10.
