Chip pan blaze evacuation drama

Tenants at a supported housing complex in Medway were evacuated after a 999 emergency.

Fire crews were called to a first floor flat at The Endeavour Foyer in Shipwrights Avenue, Chatham at 7.30pm on Wednesday.

A blanket was used to put out a chip pan fire, which appears to have caught alight after being left unattended on a stove.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said: “It didn’t take long to put out and firefighters had left the scene by 8pm."

The Endeavour Foyer is a supported housing project run by Medway's largest landlord mhs homes which provides accommodation, training, and job search facilities for disadvantaged young people aged 16-25.

A spokesman said: "The chip pan had been left unattened.

Firefighters had put out the flames within minutes.

As a precaution, 15 of the residents were evacuated from the building.
