Coastal search after fishing equipment abandoned on beach near Lydd

A major search was carried out overnight when an alarm was raised about a missing fisherman.

Expensive fishing equipment and a flask were found abandoned on a beach near Lydd last night.

Police from Kent and Sussex, the Dover coastguard and nearby military scoured the coast and checked the results for any missing people.

The search was due to resume this morning - until the fisherman was found safe and well at home at about 6.15am.
