A woman who plunged to her death from the new M20 footbridge on Friday was in her 40s and lived in the Ashford.

The victim fell just before 5pm from the recently-named Eureka Skyway, which cost £8m to build.

Kent Police closed the coastbound carriageway of the motorway between junction nine (for Ashford and Faversham) and junction 10 (for Ashford South). It re-opened at about 2.15am on Saturday.

A spokesman for Kent Police confirmed the woman fell onto the carriageway and witnesses reported seeing her being struck by a vehicle.

It is the second fall from the bridge in just two weeks. On November 5, a father-of-two was seriously hurt when he fell onto the carriageway.
